Ever wondered about the old lanes, alleys and little squares that once crisscrossed Dublin but have since vanished? Well, wonder no longer.

The Dublin Historic Maps site now offers a brilliant overview map that pinpoints exactly where these forgotten streets once stood. Hover over any location and up pops the old name along with the original source it was taken from. It’s simple, clever, and incredibly useful for anyone who loves digging into the city’s past.

One of my favourites is Cherry Lane, which ran off Bolton Street, but gone by the 1926 census. And yes — of course I checked — it’s there!

These “disappeared” streets, lanes, alleys, courts, yards are corners of the city tell that us so much about how Dublin once looked and how it has changed. Seeing them mapped out like this brings a whole hidden layer of the city back to life.

A big well done to the team behind it. It’s another excellent addition from a site that already provides an extraordinary collection of historic maps.
